Malachite Monday {The Malachite Room @ Versailles}

Some people think malachite is just a fad, a phase.
But there is a history of malachite appreciation and its use in decor.
Over the next few Mondays, I'll be sharing some of my favorite malachite antiques that are found in museums and historical places around the world.

Long before Lilly Pulitzer made pink and green a thing, there was The Malachite Room at Versailles.
Posh Prep for the Napoleonic Set!
Napoleon placed these Malachite gifts from Russian Tsar Alexander I in the room that Louis XIV had previously called
"The Cabinet of the Sunset". Gifted in 1809, they were originally stored at the Grand Trianon until 1811 when Napoleon moved them to what has become their permanent display.  They are a prime example of the specific shade and pattern of Malachite found in the Urals in Russia.
